Now in its 50th year since its founding, Parkland Baptist Church (PBC) has always been a mission-minded local body. This no doubt stems from our founding members in 1971, who were themselves reaching out with the love of Christ to the Parkland County community by establishing this local body of Christ’s worldwide church. In fact, the founding members were part of a church plant assisted by our ‘mother church’, Central Baptist Church in Edmonton, who themselves saw the need for an evangelical, Baptist-denominated outreach in the Parkland County region, including Spruce Grove and Stony Plain.
It is a well-known commandment of our Lord Jesus as He left this earth to ascend to heaven, to preach His Gospel to the whole world. Known as the Great Commission, it is important to remind ourselves of it here. Then Jesus came to them and said “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28. 18-20 (NIV). It is this commandment that should encourage us to take every opportunity to spread the Gospel wherever we go and wherever we can send people in His Name.
The Great Commission is one of the Five Core Values of PBC , thus we place emphasis on reaching out with the truth of the Word of God, both on a local basis and also further afield. So we support missions and missionaries who have dedicated their lives to spread the Gospel in Canada and in the areas or countries around the world to which God has called them to serve. This not only requires finances but we should especially support them in prayer, that our Lord would grant them strength, boldness and safety where He has placed them in order to be able to work with Him effectively, as they encourage lost souls to find faith in Jesus, thus to grow His universal church of believers.
Within various web pages under this Missions Tab you will find names and mission organizations that PBC has been led to support in prayer and finances. In some cases, people at PBC have also made visits to some of these missionaries in places where they are serving in ministry. And indeed, some of the missionaries have actually grown up and found faith in Jesus at PBC and then been called by God to serve in these areas. Pray with us for these various missions and their ministries among the people they serve. Praise be to God as He leads us to work with Him, spreading the Good News where He calls us to be the voice and hands of Jesus.
