About Us Our Story

Our Story

On June 6, 1971, three families agreed to begin a Baptist Church in the community of Spruce Grove. With the assistance of the North American Baptist Association, five lots (0.7 acres) were purchased for the price of $23,400. The property owner accepted a down payment of $1 to hold the land until a loan could be arranged.

The name, Parkland Baptist, was selected to reflect the area of the County of Parkland and the church was officially organized on September 30, 1972, with sixteen members. In August 1973, Rev. Harold Weiss moved from Kansas with his wife and children to serve as the first full time Pastor.

A building program was begun in 1974 under the direction of architect Eric Proppe. Countless hours of volunteer labour went into preparing the building for the first service, held on November 7, 1975. In 1994 the church added a new wing, including classrooms, a nursery and offices. This new wing was again completed with a large amount of volunteer help from the congregation.

In 2008, the church’s Pastor of thirteen years, Lorne Trudgian, felt the call to serve in another community and the church embarked on a search for a new pastor. The man chosen for that post was Norm Bleick, who had been serving for a number of years at Weisenthal Baptist Church in Leduc. Pastor Bleick felt God was calling him to lead the Parkland congregation and started in the position of Senior Pastor in October 2010.

Pastor Bleick immediately began work to expand and enhance the family feeling of this congregation. In March of 2011, Steve Gascon took the job of Associate Pastor of Youth and Family Ministries.

In November 2015, Pastor Steve Gascon left PBC to take on a Senior Pastor Role in Nakusp B.C.. Pastor Bleick left the following April(2016) to take the call as Senior Pastor at Hillview Baptist Church in Edmonton. The Church began searching for a new senior pastor once again and in January of 2017, Pastor Josh Munan joined our congregation as Lead Pastor.  In September 2018, Pastor Enoch Gray joined the PBC family as the Associate Pastor of Family Ministries.

We continue to be part of the ABA and the NAB, and most importantly, a part of God’s family.  God has been faithful through our first forty years, and we thank God for his continuing faithfulness.  Great is thy faithfulness!
